Goal! 3 Taking a Dump on the Triology

Last night I went over to a friend’s house and watched a pirated copy of Goal! 3. I was surprised that he had a copy as nothing has been advertised recently. And after the first five minutes I could tell why. The third installment of the Goal Trilogy, "Taking on the world", was supposed to wrap up Santiago Munez football career. Instead what we get is a flaming turd that refuses to be flushed down the toilet.

Goal! “The Dream Begins” is about Santiago an illegal Mexican immigrant, played by Kulo Becker, who works his way from being a gardener and star player of amateur team f.c. Jovenes to joining Newcastle United and playing in the English Premiership. The plot was a testament of how the U.S.S.F loses out on talent by not scouting the inner city.

Goal! 2 “Living the Dream” shows Santi’s meteoritic rise to fame as he gets traded to Real Madrid and helps the Merengues win the UEFA Champions League. The third and final installment of the film was supposed to be about Santiago leading the Mexican national team to World Cup glory.

That, however, never happens as Santiago get’s injured in a car accident and misses out on the FIFA World Cup. Instead the movie is about Santi’s two English teammates (Charlie Braithwaite and Liam Adams) from Real, who had not featured in the previous two installments, and the movie now focuses on the England national team. Bloody brilliant eh?

Not much sense in going deep into the ridiculous plot as it deviates heavily from the original direction of the film’s series and leaves many unanswered questions; like what happened to Santi’s bastard little brother, his fiancé, and or his ailing grandma living in the slums?

I had read, in different sources, that the idea for Goal! 3 were for Santi to follow Beckham: who features in Goal! 2 scoring a Champions League free kick winning goal, to the L.A Galaxy and then be capped to the Mexican National team. Cuauhtémoc Blanco was supposed to have a cameo and along with Santi help the Tricolor win the FIFA World Cup.

The now defunct old rumors seem to be more in line with what was supposed to happen but somewhere down the line the movie project fell in the gutter and the atrocity of Goal! 3 was made if only to wrap up the series.
