Bofo My Angel

I was hoping that Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista would make his long awaited return to my beloved Chivas de Guadalajara but with the Mexican league draft now a foregone conclusion my hopes have all but vanished.

Bautista, who has expressed his desire to leave his current club Jaguares, could soon be playing abroad. Rumors of a possible transfer to Greek outfit PAOK and contract offers from Major League Soccer abound.

Still, I remained puzzled as to why one of Mexico’s most talented players agreed to a switch from Chivas to Jaguares in the first place. Bautista, a self proclaimed Chiva fan, agreed to join the Chiapas side after a falling off with former coach Jose de la Torre.

It was thought that Bautista’s move would only be temporary. De la Torre was given the ultimatum of making Chivas league champions, for getting rid of Bofo, but was fired midway through the season. Bautista, however, would not return as he had been transferred and was now contract bound to Jaguares.

What surprises me the most is why Jagures? I do not have anything against the Chiapas side but how does a player, in his prime, go from a Championship winning club that is gunning for an international title to a mid to low table team!? Bautista has made his desire to return to Guadalajara clear; unfortunately club President Jorge Vergara does not seem willing to welcome the volatile striker back.

Bautista has long been rumored to make a switch to MLS; especially to Chivas USA where he could not only bolster the teams attack but their waning attendance. I used to laugh at such rumors but now more than ever they seem quite possible. That is unless Bautista decides that he would rather suit up for PAOK.

Bofo is destined for the spotlight but he seems to have a black cloud hovering over him as of late. His supposed transfer to PAOK can easily fall-off and instead of playing in UEFA’s Europa League we will be seeing Bautista in the MLS cup.
