El ''Chicharito'' Hernández

A Javier “Chicharito” Hernández strike, in the 5th minute, helped Club Deportivo Guadalajara edge out a one-goal draw against Chilean side Everton, away at Sausalito stadium, and advance to the Copa Libertadores finals.

Chicharito’s goal also saved Chivas from the embarrassment of being eliminated by a club wearing a Boca Jrs replica jersey with a picture of a sausage across the chest.

Me enfermaron como Puerco!

Mexico striker Carlos Vela returned to training with Arsenal on Tuesday after being held out of practice the previous day due to fears over swine flu.

After seeking medical advice, the Premier League club told the 20-year-old player on Monday to stay away from the training ground in north London. The concerns had been prompted by the visit of friends from Mexico, where more than 150 deaths have been blamed on the swine flu virus.

Y mis 50mil pesos Que?

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) - Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee during his team's 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals.

Are you Not Entertained?

A last minute goal from second-half substitute Jose Reyes gave San Luis a much needed two-nil victory over Libertad of Paraguay allowing the “Gladiators” to sneak into the Copa Santander Libertadores finals.

Having only achieved two points out of a possible twelve, in their first four games, the “Gladiators” Copa Libertadores campaign seemed destined for failure. However, San Luis managed to win their last two games of the group stage, combined with Universitario of Peru choking in their last game, to advance to the round of sixteen.

Under-17 Championship Canceled

NEW YORK –Due to the growing concerns about the Zombie outbreak in Mexico, CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer announced Monday that the remainder of the confederation’s Under-17 Championship in Tijuana has been cancelled and the second leg of the Champions League finals has been postponed.

Mexican authorities previously had closed schools in Mexico City and on Monday extended that decision nationwide. Based on the actions of the Mexican government, CONCACAF responded to safeguard the health of players, officials and fans.

Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico and the United States all had clinched berths the FIFA U-17 World Cup, and were to play the semifinals on Wednesday with the championship and third-place match scheduled for Saturday. The four semifinalists will advance to the U-17 World Cup in Nigeria October 24-November 15.

El Capi Kristian Alvarez

It was Kristian Alvarez turn to shine as the Mexican team captain scored twice to guide the Tricolor to a three-nil victory over Guatemala and clinch a berth in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship semifinals.

Martin Galvan y 10 Mas

Martin Galvan is quite easily the most recognizable name in the Mexican side that opened their CONCACAF U-17 World Cup qualifying bid with a lopsided 7-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago. Galvan, who debuted for Cruz Azul at 14 years of age, led the Mexican offense with a hat trick and an assist.

Con Mas Huevos que Futbol

“With balls the size of grapefruit”, Amaury Ponce responded to reporters after his 68th minute header helped Chivas defeat archrivals America, at home at Jalisco stadium, and claim Superclasico glory.

According to the Chivas defender the team relied on their testicular fortitude to overcome the adversity of facing the match with a new head coach and a two game winless streak.

Ponte la Verga

"Saldremos todos los días a rompernos la madre", cautioned Mexico's new head coach Javier "el Vasco" Aguirre after being officially presented as the Mexican National teams new head coach. El Vasco's statemet pretty much sums up what he was brought to the MNT to do which is to bring back the testicular fortitude the Tricolor has been playing without..

Voila! The ZF-1

Lavolpismo has invaded my beloved Chivas! Apparently Vergara did not learn from the Azkargota fiasco and has decided to one up himself by sacking Omar Arellano, three matches after hiring him, in order to bring in Mr. Zorg’s stunt double and all around douchbag Francisco “Paco” Ramirez. And just to make things more interesting he does so with the clubs two biggest games of the season around the corner.

First up for Mr. Zorg is the superclasico as Chivas hosts group rivals America at the Jalisco stadium. A must win game as qualification to the liguilla hangs in the balance. Then there is an away match against Chilean outfit Everton which will decide Chivas faith in Copa Libertadores. Two bad results and Chivas season will be flushed down the toilet.

Prove me wrong Ramirez; you already made the Tricolor look bad by smacking around U.S nads special player Frankie Hedjuk and all he wanted were his crayons..

Juan Carlos Chavez strikes back

Juan Carlos Chavez y Chavez, one month after failing to qualify to the Youth World Cup, has managed to pick up his first piece of silverware by winning the Mediterranean International Cup.

Perhaps, what is most interesting about the U-18 Tricolor side that won their category is that they overcame three penalty kick shootouts before being crowned. In the round of sixteen Mexico defeated Girnoa 5-4 via penalty kicks then they repeated the doses to Sportic do Brasil in the quarterfinal and in the final, after overcoming a two goal deficit, took down the Brazilian U-18 national team with a 4-2 penalty kick shootout victory.

Nos hizo falta tiempo

Nos hizo falta tiempo
Nos comimos el tiempo
El equipo que forjamos
Aquel esquema que probamos
Se fue de nuestras manos..

Nos hizo falta tiempo
De caminar la lluvia
De hablar un anyo entero
De jugar una Copa de Oro
Mira que hizo falta tiempo..

Nos hizo falta tiempo
Para andar en una eliminatoria
Inventar una aventura
Dedicarse a la locura
Dibujarte los cartones
Descifrar que hay en tus notas
Mira que hizo falta tiempo
Mucho tiempo por dirigir..

Nadie Sabe, Nadie Supo..

The alarm had been set long before the Tricolor set foot in San Pedro Sula; Mexico’s president Felipe Calderon has formally petitioned El Vasco Javier Aguirre to take over the failing National Teams reigns. At least that is what the radio announcer tells me in-between commercial breaks that leave me with more knowledge of Radio Shack sales than with what is going on in the world of football.

The Mexican national team’s “crisis”, which was conceived in the bullpens of the sensationalist football news outlets, has reached a new height. The Tricolor’s 3-1 loss to Honduras, at the Olympico Metropolitano stadium, extends their winless streak in official matches, away from the comfort of the Azteca stadium, to five games.

Never mind that the Tricolor is only three games into the Hexagonal; with two of those games being on the road against rivals that in the past ten years the team has not been able to beat, heads must roll. The reset button seems like a good choice, yet again, and the teams current failings can once again be swept under the FMF’s carpet.

Lamento Boliviano

Does anyone remember Joaquín Botero? He first made headlines back in 2002 after scoring 49 goals for club Bolivar in one season and thus becoming the world’s top goal scorer. The following year Botero was signed by Pumas UNAM where he played for three years and only scored 21 goals.

Botero then returned to South America and was all but forgotten. That was until he helped guide Bolivia to a 6-1 prison ass-rape of Argentina in La Paz. Botero contributed to the monumental win by scoring three goals and rounded up his brilliant display with a silky back heal pass to teammate Didi Torrico who sealed the win. And where is Botero now; playing for Mexican primera A outfit Correcaminos UAT!

As far as Bolivia goes they are currently five points behind fifth place Uruguay; which is their most realistic shot of reaching the 2010 South Africa World Cup. Their next match is at home against Venezuela followed by back to back road games to Chile and Paraguay before returning to their high altitude fortress estadio Hernando Siles where they will host Ecuador and Brazil. Bolivia closes their qualifiers with an away game to bottom dwellers Peru.

Perhaps, the victory against Argentina was a fluke and will be the only thing left to salvage of a dismal world cup qualifying campaign or maybe just maybe it is sign of things to come as the Bolivians mount a hellacious turn around. Only time will tell but one thing is for certain at least for me the CONMEBOL qualifiers have just turned interesting.
